Meet Board Member Kiralyn Locke
What made you want to get involved with Mothers Esquire?
My first child was born at the end of my first year of law school and I was looking for a community of parent lawyers. My law school didn’t have an active parent law student group but I found MothersEsquire.
My daughter was born eight weeks before the bar exam and I struggled to get accommodations for pumping milk. I got in touch with Michelle Browning Coughlin, founder of MothersEsquire, and she assisted me so that I received the accommodations I needed. In seeing how helpful Michelle was, it made we want to get involved in the organization. I would love to be a resource for people dealing with this same issue as it comes up.
Where do you live?
Eden Prairie, Minnesota
What do you do?
I’m a civil litigator with a focus on franchise litigation. I also handle litigation matters related to employment, trust and estates, and creditor remedies.
How many kids do you have?
Two: a four and a two-year-old.
Who inspires you?
My children. I love how they see the world through a happy, positive lens. I tend to see the negative side of things, so it’s refreshing to have my kids around to help me be more upbeat and see the good.
What advice would you give to women entering the legal field?
It is a hard profession, but look for a support system and utilize it.
What is a fun fact about you?
I can lick my elbow AND I used to be a synchronized swimmer.
